Obviously you will need an axle. I've never done a swap like this but I have researched it a bit.
First you will need a straight axle from a 94 or newer Ram. Unless you want to use a leav spring set up. In which case you will need to get an axle from a 78 - 79 Ford F-150 extended cab. They used a leaf spring set up and the differential is on the proper side. The single cab F-150 have cast in radius arm mount and coil buckets.
Also, you'll have to swap the rear axle as well or you will have two different wheel bolt patterns.

You're about to undertake a serious operation.

My reasoning behind this project is, I was told I could not lift it with out doing the strait axle. Is this true? If not, could someone give me some guidance on how to lift a 2003! I want somewhere around 5 inches. I am normally a Jeep and Bronco guy but I decided to get my rango I have wanted one for some time. My Jeep and Bronco I can figure out pretty easily figure stuff out but on this on i am lost.... Thanks for all the help!!!!

From what I've been reading, the 2003 model is one that very few lift kits were made for. I think Tuff Country made a 3" suspension lift. But it was junk.
If you're going to lift yours then an axle swap seems to be the best way to get where you want to be.

Awesome thanks for the help! Couldn't I just convert the steering system back to the 02 model (if that's what Dodge changed)??? Seems to me it would cost a lot less, and effectively change the parts I am having the issue with...
