Default 2012 Durango swaying

I purchased a 2012 Dodge Durango Citadel V8 AWD. It has about 600 miles on it. I am noticing the vehicle sways abit when on the highway. It is not a vibration or tracking. At highway speeds it seems to sway like if I was pulling a trailer. This is not the first Durango that I have owned. I previously had a 1999. Then went to a Trailblazer and now I am back to a Durango. I am happy with my purchase but I'm looking for some details on this phenomon. Is anyone else experiancing this? It feels like it could be tires. I checked and all of the tires are the same pressure and within specs. Any advice is appreciated.

Do you have the Air Ride suspension in the back? If so you might want to check to make sure you don't have a leak or leveling problem. If not i would take it to the dealer and get that wonderful thing called free work done.

I do not think it has an air ride suspension system. I certainly didn't add it. I am going to take it to the dealer anyway. I am also noticing some transmission qwirkyness. Now at 700 miles on the odometer it will be going to the dealer.

Thanks for the reply

OK now I have 1500 miles. The vehicle is not swaying, but it pulls really bad when giving it throttle. Getting on the highway is most noticable, but not limited to cruising at 65 MPH. The vehicle tends to pull right until the throttle is released. That is when the vehicle pulls left. You can even feel it at highway speeds, but it doesn;t feel like a pull, but a sway. I had a tech from dealer take it for a ride. He called it Torque Steering. He says its normal. It is NOT normal. It is dangerous. I am going to take it to another dealer for a second opinion. Is anyone else experianing this? I also have a case opened at Dodge. I doubt that they can do anything.

There is no such thing as torque steering on an AWD vechicle!!!!! There is deff something wrong! Believe me all I have ever owned was AWD. Torque steering happens on cars with front wheel drive and only if the 2 shafts have different length. Not sure what our looks like but i will check and come back to ya. I have the same set up as you and will pay attention to it tonight as i am going home. ( I have a little highway commute)

Update:

While driving home tonight I tried to re create all situations like described by you. My AWD V8 was tracking straight! no sway at all :|
My advice is to make the mechanic or whom ever else is there to grab another brand new Citadel from the lot and "test" drive it! Only way to convince them is to compare, just my 2pennies

Good luck mate!

Ciao!

Boris

I've had similar issue. They have 4 wheel alignments! Have to go every three months to get aligned. I got the 3 year alignment from tires plus and solved my steering/alignment problems. YES, these dodges require maintenance to run proper!

B.O.S.Down is correct about torque steer - two different length half shafts on a FWD vehicle - the SRT4 Dodge Caliber comes to mind as one of the worst I've ever driven. AWD Druangos should not have that problem. I'm a Mustang guy, so throttle steer is more up my street. Side note, I felt some swaying on the highway, too. I just recently picked my Durango up so I attributed it to me having to get used to a new car. My wife drives the Durango and she says she hasn't noticed anything. Maybe it is just me... ?

Yeah that's a serious issue. I think your the first one to mention it. And the dealership is no help? My suggestion is to either take it to another dealership or email Chrysler directly with your issue and tell them that the dealership is not helping you.
