I have a '13 AWD 3.6l Crew Durango. Recently I have noticed that while driving (randomly) the autostick will not work. I can be driving and try to downshift and it just acts as if nothing is being done. Dash still shows D. If I stop, park and restart the car its fine.
A few times while driving its like its in WAY too high of a gear and the RPM's are really low and slowly creeps up to speed. Then yesterday while driving in town, I noticed my RPM guage moving but there was no power going to the engine (as in it wasnt increasing speed). The car has never shut off or lost power.
Went over to autozone immediately to scan the codes and it came back with the following codes
p0732 - gear ratio error in 2nd
p0730 - incorrect gear ratio
u0402-00 - implausible data received from tcm
Went to dealership this morning and they ran it through diagnostics and pulled codes. Drove just fine with no issues, but they said I need a new transmission. Quoted $2900 for a used w/ 55k miles installed including labor. A new one was like $3360 without labor.
Seeing as this is very random and not daily or any given driving condition / weather etc. does it really sound like the transmission needs replaced? I really dont have $3k to drop on a transmission and its out of warranty. I also dont want to nickel and dime this to resolve the random issues?
