Charging RV battery with 7 way plug
Newbie here asking a complex question...
Recently bought a used 2014 Dodge Durango Citidel with factory tow package. Camper battery was going low, so I connected the 7 way to the Tow Vehicle (TV for short) RV battery would not charge. Reved the engine and even put it in gear to simulate towing. Used a multimeter at the TV plug and got almost no voltage (used 12v+ pin and ground) Checked all fuses and they were good. Eventually turned the car around and "jump charged the RV battery" All was fine. My previous KIA SUV did the job just fine, so I know the camper end is working. I took the Durango to Dodge for oil change and asked to check the charging system to the 7 way plug. I explained the above. They stated that this vehicle is not designed to charge an RV battery. I was stunned. Called U-Haul who installed the brake controller. He stated that some of these new cars need to be programmed to send the voltage to the charging plug.
Any comments or first hand knowledge would be so helpful.
