Door panel issue

A couple of days ago I replaced the passenger's front window motor/regulator. No big deal. Well when I went to re-install the interior door panel, I ran in to a snag. I re-caulked the plastic moisture barrier, hooked up the wire for the tweeter, hooked up the rods for the door lock and door handle, then fed the two connectors for the lock switch and window switch through...basically put everything back together exactly how it was when I pulled it apart. As any good mechanic does, before I fully installed the door panel, I did a quick ops check on everything. The window worked and the tweeter worked, but that was it. The door lock wouldn't actuate and the door handle, inside and outside, was inoperative. I pulled the interior door panel off again just to make sure that the rods for the lock and handle had freedom of operation, etc, and with the door panel off they work as advertised. Only when the door panel is off do they bind. I can't even manually slide the lock back and forth with the door panel on.

Any ideas?

The only thing I can think of is that you didn't get the rods installed the proper way. They're in a bind when the panel is installed.
Here's a link to a video showing removal and intallation of the front door panel. Maybe you'll see something that helps. Looks like a pretty straight forward operation.

I'm figuring they're binding up somewhere, but it's hard to figure out where without being able to see or feel it...that's why I was trying to see if anyone else had similar problems at any point. Not a huge deal...I've been building motors and working on cars since I was 14...I'll figure it out eventually.
