Durango Front Differential Rebuild?

10386 Views 5 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Tymont
Hey Just bought a 98 durango from my parents because the front differential needs rebuilt. the drain plug on it fell out while running down the highway so it ran out of fluid and needs rebuilt.

i haven't taken it appart yet but im pretty sure that it ran long enough to screw up the gears in there, i'm just wondering whether i would be better off buying a different differential or rebuilding the current one?

anyone know where i can get the gears for it too? also anyone else who's rebuilt their front diff., any tips or suggestions ? ( like don't do it its not worth it LOL)

If you aren't experienced or had training with diff rebuilds, I'd recommend getting it professionally done or swapping in a reman or salvaged unit.

Thanks man prolly should have checked back first but I went ahead and got impatient again... Just did the rebuild today... Wasn't as bad as I thought, but could have gone a lot smoother haha
Get all the clearances and pinion TTR within spec? Contact pattern came out right?

Ya im not totally sure about all of it. I ended up having my dad help me out. I just kinda helped where I could and watched/grabbed tools for the rest of it haha
Congrats on doing it yourself.
