Tranny problem

Hello Everyone,

I have a 1998 Durango 5.2 4x4.

I am having transmission trouble shifting from 1st to 2nd gear. RPM's race up to about 4000 and won't shift until I let up on the gas peddle.

I'd like to know if it's a big problem, or if anyone else experienced this?

Thanks
Dan

I had all kinds of transmission problems with mine. What I did to fix it was:

dropped the pan, replaced the filter and gasket ($16 - Oriely's)
replaced the Throttle Position Sensor ($30 - Oriely's)
and replaced the transmission Speed Output Sensor ($18 - Autozone)

My problem Started off similar to your issue, but it wouldn't shift into over drive.
my 99 durango does the same thing but only sometimes and only on left turns any advise any one?
Travis398 gives some solid advice. Make sure the fluid level is good as well. Any much more than that and I would take it to a shop.
I have the same shifting issue buts it's going from 2nd to drive. If I let off gas and let idle come all the way down it shifts fine. I'm going to try above advice and see if that changes anything
Did any of these suggestions work? I have similar problem. On startup will shift through gears but once I hit a couple stop signs the engine will rev and not want to switch to second and so on. I have had filter fluid changed. Governor pressure sensor changed and transducer. That fixed my problem for a week and it was back. If I shut down and restart it will work until I slow down a couple times and won't up shift
